Direct File Access in Exchange Server 2007

Direct File Access feature is only supported in OWA 2007 Premium client. This feature allows users to access their file through OWA without establishing VPN connections for accessing their documents. DFA provides only read level access to documents, but also provides you the functionality of saving those documents to your local disk for further editing.

DFA feature is enabled by default when you install Exchange Server 2007. Only exception is when you have enabled Form-based authentication (FBA) on the same OWA directory and users will have to select Private computer option on the FBA logon screen. Direct file access will be disabled if users select Public computer on the logon page.
