Edge transport
does not require Active Directory, since it uses its own directory,
Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM), which makes it very secure.
Its independent role allows administrators to use Edge role as a smart
host and relay internet mails.
1. Configure Accepted Domains on Edge Transport Server
Create new accepted domain. Domain name will be example.com and set it to Authoritative domain.
2. Creating SMTP receive connector from Exchange Server 2003
Create new SMTP Receive connector, as Internal.
3. Creating Internet Send Connector on Edge Transport Server
· Create SMTP send connector, select internet.
· Address space SMTP
· Set it for DNS
4. Creating Send Connector to the Internal Exchange Organization
· Internal-SMTP connector
· SMTPaddress as --
· Smart hostname of Exchange Server 2003
5. Creating SMTP Connector on Exchange Server 2003 to configure Relay restrictions to enable only to Edge Transport
Open SMTP virtual server properties and Relay to Edge server IP address only.
6. Create SMTP Connector in Routing groups in Exchange Server 2003, configure smart host as the address of Ex 2k7
