Transport rules in Exchange server 2007

Transport rules in Exchange server 2007 provides you an easy and flexible way to apply message policies on senders and recipients, both inside or outside of your organization. It has now become very easy with Transport rules to apply custom policies and rules on any mailbox or mails. We can apply security on messages between users and filter message contents based on predefined strings and so on.

How to create Transport Rules in Exchange Server 2007
In this exercise, we will create a new Transport rule where Joseph will not be able to send messages to Lawrence except where subject contains Confidential and Urgent words.
1. Open the Exchange Management Console.
2. Expand Organization Configuration and then Hub Transport.
3. Click on Tansport Rules on the right side.
4. Right click on white space and click New Transport Rule...

5. Enter any rule Name and Description. Make sure, Enable Rule checkbox is selected.

6. Select any Conditions.

7. Select the Actions.
Â
8. Mark any Exceptions.
9. Click on New to create the Transport rule.
10. Once rule is created, same will be available in Transport Rule tab.
11. To confirm if Transport rule is created and working properly, send an email from Joseph to Lawrence with any message on the subject.
12. Joseph will get a bounce email with failure message as shown below
